Living space in Residence Vught with a continuous poured floor and lime plaster

About this project

A continuous poured floor connects the floors of this villa, with walls in a softly polished lime plaster that changes with the daylight through the day.

In this villa the floor was made as one continuous surface, from the entrance through to the kitchen-diner and the utility room. Because the floor runs seamlessly beneath the steel-framed glazing, the space stays visually intact and attention goes to the composition of the architecture.

The walls are finished in a mineral lime plaster with a low sheen. The texture is built up in two layers and lightly polished, creating nuance in the surface without visible movement. In the evening, in raking light, that nuance becomes visible; by day the wall looks calm and even.

The substrate was measured in advance for residual moisture and flatness. On the first floor a separated build-up was used to keep the junction with the existing structural floor free of stress.
