Approach

From first conversation to finished surface.

A finish comes about in steps that follow one another. What is settled during preparation no longer has to be solved during execution.

Complete build-up

From construction to visible top layer.

We look beyond the decorative finish. Moisture, flatness, load-bearing capacity, detailing and junctions ultimately determine how a surface performs and ages.

Five steps

Our approach

Introduction

We discuss the interior, how the space is used and the technical starting points. Where relevant, we look at the existing floor and wall build-up and the schedule of other trades.

Materials

In the showroom we look at colours, textures and material samples at full scale. For the most promising options we make samples that can be judged under the lighting conditions of the project.

Advice

We settle the choice of material, the build-up and the detailing: junctions with frames and thresholds, transitions to other materials and the finish around built-in elements.

Execution

Execution is scheduled in step with the rest of the build. Surfaces are finished in one pass so that no visible joins appear.

Handover

At handover we go over the work for detail and finish, and record how the surface is to be maintained.

Technique

What we settle in advance.

Before a top layer is applied, the substrate is assessed for flatness, adhesion and residual moisture. That measurement determines which primer, levelling and intermediate layers are needed.

With underfloor heating and with mixed constructions, the build-up determines the result in the longer term. Junctions with frames, stairs and built-in elements are worked out in advance rather than solved on site.

  • Substrate

Assessment of adhesion, flatness and composition.

  • Preparation

Cleaning, blasting or sanding down to a load-bearing surface.

  • Moisture

Measuring residual moisture before the build-up begins.

  • Levelling

A flatness class matched to the final finish.

  • Build-up

Primer, intermediate layers and top layer as one system.

  • Junctions

Frames, thresholds, stairs and built-in elements.

  • Detailing

Shadow gaps and transitions between materials.

Collaboration

Coordination with other parties.

A finish rarely stands on its own. Its order relative to installations, frames, the kitchen and joinery determines whether a detail can be executed cleanly.

That is why, during preparation, we coordinate with the contractor, the joiner and, where applicable, the architect or interior designer. It prevents solutions that remain visible afterwards.

Showroom

Materials have to be experienced.

Colour, texture and the feel of a material only come through when you see and touch a surface in person.
